Handling mods
The default grip levels cause the wheel to bounce left and right because they're too grippy.
These handlings have reduced grip to realistic levels, and are essential for playing with a wheel.
Generally, a lateral grip of about 1.0 should do well. You can use others - these are just the ones I've used and produced satisfying results.

Changelog
Latest changelog (Most recent, includes all previous changelogs)
5.5.0
This is a fairly big update, mostly because it completely revamps the force feedback model. It now uses traction data from the wheels to provide force feedback, which is very accurate, removes a number of options you need to configure and should feel more natural overall, and much more detailed.
A downside of this detail exists for custom add-on maps: If they're low quality, this can be felt through the steering wheel, but this may only be noticeable for higher-end wheels, which should have options to blend and filter out such noise.
Following is a full overview of the changes in this update:
Overhaul force feedback (again):
* FFB is now based on slip angle of each wheel
* FFB takes weight transfer/tyre loads in account now
* FFB scales with terrain grip levels
* Includes general response curve visualization in FFB setup
* Response normalized for excessive fTractionCurve values GTA uses normally
* (can be disabled/made linear to feel more difference)
* Fix intermittent FFB loss for Fanatec wheels after alt-tabbing
* Fix script crash on trying to call unavailable FFB effect
Most prominent FFB settings (SATFactor, MaxSpeed, Gamma) are now obsolete for
ground vehicles, but are still used in amphibious/flying modes. They're hidden
away in an advanced menu. Back-up your settings if you want to revert!
Other wheel stuff:
* Improve WheelToKeyboard, now maps multiple input devices to any key
* Increase wheel rotation range up to 2880 degrees
* Improve device assignment menu
* Display currently assigned device to a control
* Display whether a device is disconnected or not configured
* Fix ineffective braking when reversing when using wheel
Improve driving assists:
* Use more accurate data sources to determine slip
* Fix brake force not scaled to handling brake force
* Fix TCS UI elements lingering when no throttle applied, if other throttle effects are active
* Fix ABS UI not coming up for GTA's ABS
Misc:
* Add vehicle-optional downshift protection with visual and audio cues
* Add pitch to g-force based camera movement
* Improve wheel bone rotation precision
* Update support for Wanted188's R32
* Allow configuring telemetry endpoint (IP and port in settings_general.ini \[Misc\])
* Allow saving full vehicle config instead of just empty/delta from base config
* Fix steering animation sometimes not loaded on initial game start
Enjoy the update!

Troubleshooting
- ALWAYS include the following (use pastebin or something similar to post the files):
- ManualTransmission/Gears.log
- ManualTransmission/settings_general.ini
- ManualTransmission/settings_wheel.ini
- What kind of inputs (wheel/controller/keyboard) you're using
- What you already tried to do
- Incompatibilities with other mods: Pinpoint the issue and provide logs.
Known bugs and problems
- Gears.asi doesn't load (in asiloader.log, or indicated otherwise)
- Make sure you're using the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Make sure you're using the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable.
- Wheel force feedback is too responsive or missing
- Install one of the handling mods referred to above
- Check "Anti-dead force" in force feedback menu: Reduce when too responsive, increase when not responsive enough
- Use a LUT and dial down forces.
- Logitech G920 (NOT G29) crashing (Known issue)
- At this moment cause is unknown. Try:
- Remove ScriptHookVDotNet, or
- Use RagePluginHook to launch, or
- Remove/Downgrade/Upgrade G-Hub, or
- Buy another wheel
- Wheel is not detected or doesn't work properly
- Check if your drivers are up to date and the wheel works for other games
- Check if some other program isn't using your wheel (x360ce, etc)
- Check if the wheel is detected in Gears.log (in the ManualTransmission folder)
- If using Steam: Fix: Steam Big Picture > Settings > Controller Settings > Uncheck Generic Gamepad Configuration Support (Found by Kaerali)
- If after the Steam fix, it does show in the log file, but registering an input is still not effective, restart Steam and/or your computer
- Try another USB port!
- Camera doesn't behave as expected in VR
- Developer options -> Compatibility settings -> Disable FPV camera
- No traffic light textures in first person, just faint coronas
- Caused by custom first person camera. Disable it in Misc options.
- Even without "Clutch & throttle start" enabled, pressing throttle starts the engine
- Caused by game version v1.0.2545.0 and newer.
- As of release 5.5.0, no workaround exists yet.
- Consider downgrading to v1.0.2372.2 or older.

If your message does not contain ALL of the following, expect to be ignored:
- An acknowledgement you thoroughly read through the available menu option descriptions and readmes for your issue
- A detailed yet concise description of what went wrong
- A LINK (pastebin) to Gears.log (can be found in the ManualTransmission folder, or in %localappdata%\ikt\ManualTransmission)
not sure why but ABS does not want to turn off even if i disable it. also, is there any way to disable car starting when i press the gas pedal?
i installed correctly but the mod wont start any suggestions? @ikt
@darkchocolateoo
There are two "layers" of ABS:
- From the game itself
- From the script
The script can't disable the ABS from the game itself. If the car has ABS, it'll stay on. The ABS from the script works for cars without ABS, or when forcefully activated in the ABS option to work alongside the stock ABS (but reduces braking performance).
Also, no idea about the gas pedal issue. I'll need to look into it. Could be that GTA recently started behaving differently as when I last tested/implemented the feature, or it's just some setting (disable clutch+throttle start)
@Vlone2Thug
Check the pinned comment.
Hello, can you support more steering wheel mapping, such as direct drive steering wheel or osw direct drive wheel。My simagic m10 l is no longer recognized in the game.
That’s not helpful at all how about you just help people instead of being so strict I didn’t ask you a stupid question. I installed your mod and I click the button nothing happens @ikt
@fok
Any steering wheel (and peripheral, like shifters and pedals) should be supported, as long as it identifies itself as a game input or steering wheel. The wheel not appearing could be Steam grabbing it. Check the description for some workarounds.
The "WheelSetup.exe" tool should also recognize and display your wheel. If it's in there but doesn't show up in-game, that's probably Steam.
Also, logs would be useful to see what kind of issue it is.
@Vlone2Thug
Can't help you without you helping yourself by providing the required details.
it's not opening. even when I am into the car the mtmenu is not working.
@JohnDoey72 please tell me.
@darkchocolateoo @wieczoras @AmmarKing125
Did some testing. Indeed, the car engine now starts when pressing throttle. It's caused by game version v1.0.2545.0 and newer.
As of release 5.5.0, no workaround exists yet.
Consider downgrading to v1.0.2372.2 or older.
@stuntman7o2
As of the latest commit, 997afcc, lock to horizon is here.
A build should be available here: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/E66666666/gtavmanualtransmission/builds/44412603/artifacts
It'll probably be released in 5.5.1, but there's no telling when that will be released. Struggling with maximizing compatibility/stability (for development, normal gameplay unaffected).
Dont work, i put ManualTransmission folder, DismembermentASI and Gears in the gtav folder.
Thanks a lot ikt! I tried it but still no luck with ticking the lock to horizon. Even in flat screen mode it still follows the car up and down movement. I do see a slight improvement in the forward and backward movement fluidity but not the up and down during bumps and elevation changes. I played around with the other movement settings to zero and still the same.
Also tried my new simagic mini wheel and still has a dip in fps even in flat screen mode, from 120 down to 90 fps, everything in lowest quality, no msaa, except textures and shader to very high . Although, I don't see a drop in fps if settings are higher and in the 60fps range.
Still enjoying it though, this mod would be awesome in cyberpunk! Keep up the good work man!
Might sound lame lol but could we get a gear for Parking and drive?
Despite turning off First Person Vehicle Auto-Center in Gta5 settings, when I ride a car, the camera is automatically moved to the center without being fixed.
So I tried deleting this mode. Then I got in the car and the camera didn't change automatically and it was fixed in the direction I was looking at. Is there a way to solve this problem?
Oh sorry it was my fault I solved it
@stuntman7o2
Are you sure you've enabled it? Anyway, I made some more improvements in the latest build: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/E66666666/gtavmanualtransmission/builds/44461157/artifacts
Grab the new build, you should see a new submenu for horizon locking within the camera options.
It definitely works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYHdD3rcBgU
Do note the option applies per vehicle, so if you made a custom config for a specific vehicle it does not carry over to other vehicles. Or if you edit the base config, it will not carry over to vehicles which have their own (camera) settings defined already.
@thekiller199365
If you have a H-pattern shifter (or something like an actual automatic shift knob), the script has an option to map Park/Reverse/(Neutral)/Drive to specific shifter positions.
first person view with nve mod doesn't work for me | raindrops fall into the cabin
@ikt the hotwiring animation is not being played when a vehicle it's hotwired, thought you should know
